Does your partner…

  • Become possessive and jealous in a way that frightens you?
  • Call you names or speak to you with disrespect?
  • Threatens you or makes you feel scared?
  • Hit, slap, choke, or push you?
  • Take your money or belongings without asking?
  • Threaten you, your children, or your pets?
  • Threaten to kill you or himself?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you may be in an abusive relationship. If something about your relationship makes you uncomfortable, listen to your instincts. Talk to someone. Get advice, and be sure you have a safety plan. Power yourself and pick up the phone.

If you’re in a healthy relationship, here are some tips to make it even better!

  • Exercise together—it’s a fun way to get closer! Go for a walk after a healthy dinner, play Frisbee in the park on a nice day. Explore movement together in any way you wish!
  • Cook healthy meals together or for one another. Show how much you care for each other by enjoying homemade nutritious meals together!
  • Spice up your routine every once in a while! Go to the park, a concert, a local event, or anything new and different to help keep things fresh.
  • Give each other space. Nobody likes to be smothered. Allow time for each of you to do your own thing so you can continue to appreciate yourselves as a couple.
  • Talk to each other. There’s nothing more important in a healthy relationship than honesty and open communication.
  • Stay true to yourself. Don’t stop doing the things that make you “you” when you become part of a couple. Those things are the reasons your partner fell for you in the first place!
